Skin Problems
Our skin and collagen fibers are very sensitive to levels of estrogen, a hormone deficiency causes, dry, thinner and aging looking skin, irritation, and wrinkles.
We all believe as we move from teenage years that acne is behind us. Well guess what Ladies?! Acne can and does come back while in menopause. Unfortunately, menopause and skin problems go hand-in-hand. Therefore, the closer to your mid to late forties you get, the more you will start to notice changes in your skin.
As in all the symptoms possible in menopause, do not assume that you will be faced with it. All these symptoms will vary woman to woman. The degree, the intensity, the frequency and the duration will also depend on each woman.
In other words, you may have a list of symptoms whereas your sister or best friend has a completely different list. However, it is common for the majority of women to have issues with the skin such as dry skin, acne, and small veins.
There is however good news! There are a number of good options to consider when treating any of the skin problems. You don’t have to deal with dry skin, you can find a number of creams, vitamins, minerals and herbs to help you.
We are overwhelmed in the market place with moisturizers. The be all end all of aid for dry skin. However, most will not work! They work only by locking in the existing moisture. If you have no moisture to lock in then it won't help. For that reason alone, drinking water and plenty of it will help you
Some women will experience a prickling, itching sensation on the skin, known as "formication". It has been called "crawling skin" because it feels as though tiny insects are marching along your body. The greatest incidence of formication occurs 12 to 24 months after the last menstrual period. Though the cause is unknown, it has been linked with menopause. Eventually this symptom disappears on its own.
